Removals Lyme Regis: This month we have the lowdown for anyone who might be thinking of moving to Lyme Regis. The events of the last year have seen more people wanting to move out towns and cities and head to the coast and this historic seaside town, situated on England’s famous Jurassic Coast World Heritage site has a lot to offer!

Lyme Regis is a coastal town, situated 25 miles West of the county town of Dorchester. With golden sands, crystal clear seas and a wealth of interesting attractions including the famous stone ‘Cobb’ – an ancient artificial harbour wall which hosts a small marine aquarium.

The Cobb has also featured prominently in both literature and film – including the  Jane Austen novel Persuasion, and John Fowles’ The French Lieutenant’s Woman. When the latter was made into a film – staring Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons – many scenes were shot in Lyme Regis.

Aside from the beach the town is famous for it’s fossils and in particular it’s most famous former inhabitant, Mary Anning (1799 – 1847). Anning was  a prolific and pioneering fossil collector who became famous around the world for the important finds she made on the beaches and surrounding cliffs. Her fossils challenged scientific thinking, prompting many changes in our understanding of prehistoric life and the history of the Earth. Some of her discoveries can be seen in Lyme Regis museum – whilst other reside in museum collections around the world. Lyme Regis is still a popular destination for fossil hunters as the coastal cliffs continue to erode, exposing fresh prehistoric treasures with each rock fall.
