This week we’re taking a look at removals in West Bay in Dorset, with some info for anyone thinking of moving to this beautiful coastal town. Since the advent of Covid may people have realised that they don’t need to be in a city to work and that life is possibly too short to wait until retirement to find our own place in the sun. As a consequence of this, house prices in Cornwall have skyrocketed, with some calling it the ‘new London’ – but if you’re looking for your own special place in the West, Dorset’s spectacular Jurassic coast also features some fantastic towns

The town of West Bay

You may recognise the dramatic sweeping cliffs here as they featured prominently in the popular ITV crime drama ‘Broadchurch’ starring David Tenant and Olivia Coleman, which first aired in 2013. It was also the location for Nick Berry’s TV series ‘Harbour Lights’ and the beach scene in ‘The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin.’  But what else can you see and do in this beautiful place?

The town itself is quite small. There are two beaches, both featured in The Good Beach Guide: East Beach and West Beach.

East Beach is the beach you may recognise from the telly with those iconic sandstone cliffs. It’s a sloping, shingle beach with stunning views towards Chesil Beach and Portland.

West Beach is smaller and quieter. This beach is popular with young families because it is protected by a cove formed between the harbour pier and the rock groynes of the Esplanade, which make the water here shallow and safe for paddling.

Although the town itself is small, it’s situated just 2 Miles away from the town of Bridport (where we are based) which has lots of interesting things going on all year round, with a thriving arts scene, restaurants, supermarkets, boutique shops and some great schools.

If you are planning on moving to West Bay itself, then you need to be prepared for the seasonal contrasts that happen when you’re living by the seaside. There will be a great influx of visitors during the summer season and not much going on in the winter. If you’re moving into the area it’s a good idea to visit during peak and off peak times to get a feel for this change of pace before you commit to moving.
