It’s been a while since we visited Sherborne on the blog – and for anyone looking for removals in Sherborne or local storage, this is one Dorset town that we visit regularly and have lots of experience moving people in and out of. If you’re thinking of moving to the area and want to know more about Sherborne, it is brilliantly placed and within easy reach of many other local villages and attractions.

Sherborne is just over 15 miles from the picturesque town of Shaftesbury – where the striking, cobbled Gold Hill was used as the location for the well known Hovis advert directed by Ridley Scott (pre-Aliens).  It is 12 miles from the famous sleeping giant of Cerne Abbas, carved into a chalk hill and wielding a huge club (amongst other things). And it is 23 miles from our HQ here in Bridport.

Living in Sherborne

As you can imagine from this well-placed location, the transport links to Sherborne are excellent, making it a popular choice with commuters. The town has its own train station which will get you directly to London Waterloo in just over 2 hours or – if you’re heading in the opposite direction – to the city of Exeter in just over an hour. It is very close to the A30 and A303 so if you prefer to travel to London by car you can usually get there using these routes within 3 hours.

Sherborne itself is a thriving market town, with lots of great independent shops and traditional pubs. There are two castles, an atmospheric abbey and several historic schools, with prestigious alumni including Alan Turing, Jeremy Irons and Jon Pertwee. Every summer the town hosts several annual festivals, including a literary festival – and every October, a historic fair, known as ‘Pack Monday’ which has developed from an agricultural fair into a popular street fair with sideshows, stalls and a funfair.
