New Year – new move? Firstly we’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very happy new year before we dive in with this week’s topic. Moving house. Sometimes the new year can get you thinking about all those things you really wanted to do but haven’t done yet and it is a great time to set some goals and really get on with things.

But where to start? Moving house can be very stressful, so it is a good idea to allow yourself plenty of time to look for a house, arrange finance and plan how you are going to make your move. At Northover and Gilbert we have a range of services available  whether you want us to pack and move everything for you in our lorries – or you simply require a smaller van with a man to get a few things shifted. We can also arrange international shipping and we have superb stone-built storage facilities right here in the centre of Bridport if you’d prefer to just pack everything away for a while.

Once you’ve found your home and you’ve got your moving date it is then time to start packing up and doing all those little admin tasks like telling your phone and broadband company that you are moving.

On our website we have created a really useful moving checklist to help you get organised. This can be downloaded and printed out, enabling you to check everything off as you go and make sure that nothing is missed.

If you’re still at the planning stages, you might find it useful to read our 3-part guide to the cost of moving home that we published last year. And once you are ready to sell, we’ve also got some tips here on how to sell your house quickly.
